Ahead of the Italy national team’s fixture against Turkey, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has become an animated cat character to serve a good cause for Make-A-Wish Italy, which grants wishes to seriously ill children.
Verratti will be a part of a series with cats called “Italia Gattastica!” The 28-year-old will be known as “GattoMarco” and wears an outfit customized in Italy’s kit to help encourage the national team alongside friends Lampo, Milady, Pilou, and Polpetta. Proceeds from the sale of the limited edition Italian flag will be donated to Make-A-Wish Italy.
“I am really happy to start this project. The day I was offered this adventure, my thoughts immediately turned to my children, unconditional fans of the 44 Gatti,” Verratti said.
“Now I hope the little fans of the Buffycats and now also of GattoMarco will like it, because at the next European Championships we will need the support and encouragement of everyone: young and old. Forza Azzurri! Forza 44 Gatti!”
