Video: ‘I’ve Been Through a Lot in the Past Two Years’ – Neymar Gives Emotional Interview Following Brazil’s Win Over Peru

Neymar Jr. once again starred for Brazil as they defeated Peru 4-0 in the Copa América’s second matchday. The 29-year-old scored his fourth goal in four fixtures, along with providing four key passes.

Following the victory, the Paris Saint-Germain forward spoke to SBT Sportswhere he revealed an emotional side regarding what he’s gone through over the past two years.

The Brazil international has dealt with various obstacles such as dealing with injuries on the pitch to sexual assault allegations. Then there’s seeing his country being one of the most ravished by the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’ve been through a lot in the past two years that has been complicated. The numbers do not represent anything compared to the happiness I have playing for Brazil. Today we are living through a difficult time in the world. To be someone’s mirror, to give someone joy is enormous happiness,” Neymar said. “I really want my family and friends to be proud of the history I am building here. These numbers mean nothing to me when it comes to wearing the Brazilian national team jersey.

“We arrived without knowing what was going on, without knowing if the Copa America was going to take place. We respect the hierarchy, and we will never say no to the national team. I will never say no to the country. To disagree, to have a different opinion, there is respect for each other … We had our opinion and expressed it, and we are here playing. It was complicated, difficult.”
