Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti is expected to start in the Italian national team’s upcoming Euro 2020 Round of 16 fixture against Austria, according to a report from the Italian-based outlet Il Messaggero.
Verratti wound up providing Mancini with a notable midfield dilemma following his convincing performance for Italy in the Euro 2020 group stage fixture against Wales.
While Manuel Locatelli orchestrated strong performances in the group stage fixtures against Turkey and Switzerland, Verratti’s showing against Wales has forced Mancini to decide on which of these two talents will start for Italy in the major clash with Austria.
As noted by Il Messaggero, Verratti is on par to start in this knockout stage showdown, which may see the PSG talent tag alongside Chelsea’s Jorginho and Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella in Italy’s midfield setup.
Verratti may be looking to put together the best showing of his career with Italy in this upcoming bout against Austria.
