Real Madrid Manager Ancelotti Highlights Verratti as a Key Player for Italy’s Euro 2020 Knockout Stage Run

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti spotlighted Marco Verratti’s experience as a reason for why he will be a crucial player over Italy’s remaining Euro 2020 knockout stage run.

Verratti featured for the Italian national team in its Euro 2020 Round of 16 win against Austria.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder created multiple goal-scoring chances for teammates and completed three tackle attempts over his 67 minutes of playing time in the match.

Ancelotti is much familiar with Verratti’s prowess, especially as he coached the veteran midfielder for one season at PSG.

In speaking to the Italian-based outlet Il Giornale, Ancelotti singled out Verratti’s experience for club and country for why he will be a crucial player in what could end up being a deep run for Italy in the Euro 2020 knockout stage.

“I know him well, I coached him in Paris,” Ancelotti said. “He is an easy-going guy but with a great personality to which he has now added international experience. He is one of the few, in the Italian group, who has played in the Champions League.

“Now that the European Championship is getting underway with the in or out challenges, this quality will also count.”

It will be noteworthy to see whether Verratti will start for the Azzurri in its Euro 2020 Quarterfinal fixture against Belgium.

Verratti would surely be ready for such a major challenge in his international career.
