Real Madrid defender Raphaël Varane will see his contract expire next summer. The 28-year-old is reluctant to extend his stay with the Spanish club and appears ready to depart.

Following the exit of manager Zinedine Zidane, Varane seems ready to tackle a new challenge. As a result, it could mean a possible return to France. According to El ConfidencialVarane’s decision not to extend has forced Los Blancos to put the defender on the market.

If Real Madrid wants any transfer sum for the player, they’ll need to sell this summer. The Spanish media outlet reports that Manchester United has surveyed the situation. However, Varane wants to return to his home country and join Paris Saint-Germain.

El Confidencial also adds that Real Madrid is looking for a transfer sum between €50-million and €60-million for the defender. Nonetheless, when it comes to Varane, it isn’t only reports in Spain that link the defender to the capital club.

Foot Mercato has also reported the interest that PSG could have in Varane. The French media outlet states that Les Parisiens have established contacts with the player’s entourage.

Varane has decided not to comment on his future with Real Madrid. During a recent press conference, he’s taking the same approach as Kylian Mbappé in focusing on the 2022 FIFA European Championship.

“This is not the time to talk about my future; I am focused on the selection, on this Euro,” Varane said. “It is normal and logical to ask the question, and for my part, it is normal and logical to focus on the upcoming deadlines. We are all human beings. We can think about it.”

“As for my personal case, I am focused on the objectives that we have in the France team. It is not a subject that I will discuss every day in my room at Clairefontaine. I am focusing on my goal, and now is not the time to discuss it. If I have to talk about it, it will be directly with the people concerned.”
