PSG Mercato: Real Madrid Set to Rival Paris for One Coveted Napoli Midfielder

Real Madrid is reopening a transfer interest in Spanish and current Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz, according to a report from the Italian-based outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Le10Sport).

Real Madrid is looking to reinforce its midfield over the upcoming transfer window and while club officials are not planning to complete multiple mega signings, the side is considering Ruiz as a viable transfer option.

Ruiz garnered interest from Real Madrid multiple times over the past couple of years, but Los Blancos refrained from opening up serious transfer talks for the midfielder each time.

Real Madrid may not be the lone club in the possible race to sign Ruiz.

PSG has also been linked with Ruiz as of late, although the French powerhouse has already strengthened its midfield depth with the free transfer signing of former Premier League winner Georginio Wijnaldum.

One report last year did note that Napoli is set on swaying away clubs from signing Ruiz as club officials prefer to come to terms with the Spanish international for a multiyear contract extension deal.

Ruiz well has the ability to play multiple midfield roles, whether as a holding or base midfielder.

For now, Ruiz is all focused on Spain’s upcoming Euro 2020 Quarterfinal showdown against Switzerland.
