The pending arrival of AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to Paris Saint-Germain means the capital club has an overload of shot-stoppers. As a result, they’ll need to see some departures.
According to Greek media outlet Greek media SportFM, Olympiakos FC wants to upgrade their goalkeeping position and have eyes on Alphonse Areola and Sergio Rico.
With Donnarumma arriving, Rico’s backup spot will go to the Italy international and Keylor Navas as they split the starts this upcoming 2021-22 season.
This arrival now makes Rico expendable as PSG will listen to offers for the 27-year-old. As for Areola, the France international has gone on loan the last two seasons; it’s clear that the 28-year-old isn’t in the plans for PSG.
Areola has seen his name link to various clubs. The France international’s agent, Mino Raiola, works the phones to find a club interested in his client. Nonetheless, expect both Areola and Rico to have new homes this summer, whether it’s in Greece or elsewhere.
