Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar continued his recent top play during the Brazilian national team’s key 4-0 Copa America group stage win over Peru.
The PSG star scored a much-needed goal in the match; he has now recorded 68 international goals in his storied career with the Brazilian national team.
With 10 more goals, Neymar will surpass Pele and become the Selecao’s all-time leading goal-scorer.
Pele has closely followed Neymar’s career ever since the PSG forward’s days with Santos, and still to this day, the former World Cup winner remains impressed with Brazil’s current superstar.
In a post via his official Instagram account, Pele lauded Neymar’s recent form with Brazil and noted that he is well rooting for the Ligue 1 star.
“Every time I see this boy, he is smiling,” Pele said. “It’s impossible not to smile back. It is contagious. I, like all Brazilians, am always happy when I see him playing football.
“Today, he took another step towards my goal-scoring record for the Seleçao. And I’m rooting for him to get there, with the same joy I’ve had since I saw him play for the first time.”
Neymar is currently leading Brazil in its 2021 Copa America run, which has already included a pair of group stage wins. The PSG star could very well add to his Selecao legacy with a possible win in this prestigious international tournament.
