Man United’s Fred Talks Tactically Playing With PSG’s Neymar

The Brazil national team kicked off their Copa América competition with a 3- victory over Venezuela. The Seleção also came away with two 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying wins against Ecuador and Paraguay leading up to the tournament.

In a recent interview with Net Diario, midfielder Fred spoke about his role on the national team and how it differentiates from how he plays at Manchester United.

Playing alongside Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar Jr., Fred explained that his responsibilities in the midfield are different.

“My role is primarily to run the midfield well, to give more freedom to the forwards,” Fred said. “Here with the Selecao, Neymar for example, Richarlison, Everton Ribeiro, so that they have more freedom to play forward, to give them that freedom with the quality of the ball.”

Having this freedom for Neymar seems to be working as the 29-year-old had two goals and two assists in the World Cup Qualifying fixtures against Ecuador and Paraguay. The Neymar kicked off the Copa América with a goal and an assist versus Venezuela.

As the Copa América progresses and Brazil has an eye on the 2022 FIFA World Cup, it seems as though Fred’s role might go underappreciated. However, if he allows Neymar to have this freedom to influence a match at this rate, then the Seleção could lift a trophy or two by the end of next year.
