Antoine Griezmann is well confident that Kylian Mbappe will be able to rediscover his goal-scoring form during the ongoing UEFA Euro 2020 tournament.
Mbappe is off to a scoreless start in the ongoing Euros. The Paris Saint-Germain forward had a goal disallowed during France’s opening group stage fixture against Germany and wound up missing several high-percentage goal-scoring opportunities during the draw result against Hungary.
Griezmann sees that all it would take for Mbappe to get back on track scoring-wise is for him to score a mere one goal at the Euros.
Griezmann spoke further during a press conference (via FFF) about his international teammate.
“What every striker needs is to put that first goal,” Griezmann said. “The sooner it happens, the better for everyone.
“We have to be patient and confident.”
Mbappe surprised many when he attempted a free-kick during the fixture against Hungary. Griezmann revealed that when it comes to free-kick and even penalty kick situations, there is no designated player on the team to take such attempts.
“He took the ball and wanted to shoot it,” Griezmann said. “He shoots them very well, Kylian, the free kicks, I saw them in training. Me, there was no concern. It’s a pity that it did not go in; he puts them in during training.
“If a player wants to take it, he takes it. I am open. If someone feels it, takes it, and scores it, all the better.”
France will cap off its Euro 2020 group stage schedule with a pivotal fixture against Portugal, where a win for Les Bleus would clinch it Group F.
