There’s no doubt that Kylian Mbappé is the star of the France national team. However, for some in the French media, that doesn’t mean the Paris Saint-Germain forward should have a right to do everything on the squad.
For example, there was a recent report that Mbappé had overtaken the free-kick duties from Antoine Griezmann. This decision didn’t sit well with RMC Sport pundit Jérôme Rothen. The former PSG midfielder went on to call out the young forward for having a massive ego.
“There’s no problem with [Kylian Mbappe] being the leader on the pitch, but the fact that this goes beyond the field of play bothers me,” Rothen said. “It’s astonishing that he lets Mbappe do so many things and not be totally focused. Does he know that he doesn’t have the [same] ability as some of the others from dead balls?”
“Can you remember him ever scoring a free-kick from 25 yards out? No, but I remember [Antoine] Griezmann and [Paul] Pogba doing that. A left-footer and a right-footer. So, what’s he taking them for?”
🗣💬 "Est-ce que Mbappé fait un bon Euro ? Non. On attend beaucoup mieux de lui. Et qu'est-ce qu'il vient foutre à tirer les coup francs directs ?"
