Former Italian striker Filippo Inzaghi provided his take on the comparisons between Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Mbappe is off to a promising start in his career at the club and international levels. This has pushed many to predict that Mbappe will be the successor to both Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in being the next best player in the world.
Inzaghi is much a fan of Mbappe and his play style, especially with his play as a winger.
Still, Inzaghi sees that Mbappe has ways to go before he can reach the level of Ronaldo, which he spoke further about to the Italian-based outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (via A Bola).
“Cristiano [Ronaldo] has this ability to quickly understand where the ball will go,” Inzaghi said. “Think back to the goal against Germany; his movement theoretically frees his partner and locks him in the middle of the opposing defenders and instead things happen exactly as Cristiano planned.
“[Kylian] Mbappe has that change of pace. It really looks like he has gears in his legs. But I like even more the ease with which he makes the difference even by the meter; he is devastating in small and large spaces.
“For the moment, he seems a little less attracted to goals than Cristiano. Mbappe is superior in tight dribbling and speed. Cristiano from the head and in the start is unattainable and hits indifferently to the right and left with the same efficiency, something on which Mbappe can still grow.”
Mbappe would surely first need a Ballon d’Or award win before talks can even begin over whether he can become the next clear best talent in the sport.
