In years past, Neymar has well talked about how much he enjoyed playing alongside Lionel Messi during his time at Barcelona along with his desire to soon reunite once again. However, the Paris Saint-Germain star surely surprised many when he spoke about his ambition to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
In a recent interview with GQ, Neymar did not make a public pitch to Ronaldo on why the Juventus star should join PSG. Instead, Neymar simply touched on his aspiration to join forces with yet another attacking superstar.
“I want to play with Cristiano Ronaldo,” Neymar said. “I have already played with great players, like [Lionel] Messi and [Kylian] Mbappe, but I haven’t played with Cristiano Ronaldo yet.”
ESPNFC‘s Craig Burley was not having it with Neymar’s comments on this matter. In a recent segment on ESPNFC, Burley slammed Neymar over why he went as far to make this statement considering the current circumstances at PSG.
“Here is a team that have just been whipped out of the Champions League semifinal albeit without [Kylian] Mbappe in the second leg,” Burley exclaimed. “This club needs to support a manager who’s not been in there a year with a transfer budget, rebuild and figure out where they can strengthen the team.
“This is not some jolly boys outing at a football club to get to play with who you’ve never played with.”
PSG has been in the rumor mill with Ronaldo over the past year, and it remains to be seen whether the French side will grant Neymar’s wishes of playing with the former Ballon d’Or winner.
