‘We Will Be Underdogs’ — AS Monaco Manager Kovac Looks Ahead to the Coupe de France Final Against PSG

For the third time this season, Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco will face off in a domestic fixture as they will meet in the 2021 Coupe de France Final. Monaco already has bragging rights over PSG as the side picked up a pair of crucial Ligue 1 wins this season, which included the 3-2 home comeback victory.

Even with Monaco having already won the season series against PSG, Monaco manager Niko Kovac still sees the French powerhouse as the favorites in the upcoming final, which he detailed why following the team’s Coupe de France semifinal win against Rumilly Vallieres (via RMC Sport).

“I am happy to come back to Paris and play this final against PSG which is a great team,” Kovac exclaimed. “The goal was to bring Monaco back to the top and even win a trophy.

“We will be underdogs. The players want to continue to grow and go as high as possible. We must continue to dream.

“PSG is still the best team in our league on paper. They have world-class players so I think we’ll be outsiders. It’s up to us to put in place what we know how to do and what we’ve been doing since the beginning of the season to try to annoy them and win this game.”

Before the Coupe de France final showdown next week, both PSG and Monaco will be in action for league fixtures this weekend. PSG will clash with Reims while Monaco is set for a key home matchup against Rennes.

It will be interesting to see whether either manager plans to rest key players in their respective upcoming league fixtures.
