Spain National Team Manager Enrique Explains the Decision to Call Up Sarabia for Euro 2020

Paris Saint-Germain winger Pablo Sarabia earned a call-up to represent the Spanish national team in the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament.

Sarabia will be the lone Ligue 1 player to feature for Spain in this edition of the Euros. The PSG playmaker will accompany six other talents in Spain’s attacking depth chart.

For Spain national team manager Luis Enrique, the decision to call up Sarabia was not much of a difficult one to make, even though the forward did not feature much for PSG as a starter in all competitions this past season. But as Enrique detailed at a press conference (via Foot Mercato) on Monday, there were several reasons behind the call to include Sarabia in Spain’s final Euro 2020 squad list.

“It might be a surprise even for him,” Enrique said. “He was injured in the last few rallies, he plays in one of the best attacks, and even though he doesn’t play as often as we would like, he can bring us goals, assists, presence in the box, defensive work. A very interesting player.”

Sarabia has recorded just one goal in three career appearances for Spain in international play. It will be noteworthy to see whether Sarabia will become a regular for Spain in this upcoming international tournament.
