Report: Di Maria and Paredes Expected to Start in Argentina’s World Cup Qualifying Fixture Against Chile

Paris Saint-Germain midfielders Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes each earned call-ups for the Argentina national team’s upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifying fixtures against Chile and Colombia.

As noted by the Argentine-based outlet TyC Sports, Di Maria and Paredes are expected to be selected to Argentina’s starting lineup for the match against Chile.

The report adds that Argentina national team manager Lionel Scaloni may elect to go with a 4-4-2 setup for this match, which may see Di Maria take on a wide midfielder role and Paredes slot into one of the two holding midfield spots.

Paredes is well established now as a starter for Argentina. On the other hand, Di Maria is still fighting to regain a spot in Argentina’s regular starting lineups. The PSG playmaker has not made a single start for the side in any competition since the 2019 Copa America tournament.

This matchup against Chile will be a pivotal test for both PSG talents.
