Pochettino Singles Out One Major Reason for Why PSG Collapsed in the Champions League Fixture Against Manchester City

Mauricio Pochettino explained why fatigue may have played a factor in Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League semifinal first leg loss against Manchester City.

PSG’s recent bout with Manchester City in the Champions League was a tale of two halves. The French powerhouse scored a key goal in the first half, but its second half struggles saw the side complete the first match of the tie with a 2-1 loss.

Pochettino sees that multiple factors played a role in PSG’s loss to Manchester City. As the Argentine manager detailed (via Le Parisien) following PSG’s win against Lens, fatigue within the team may have been one determining factor in why the side failed to hold on to its lead against Manchester City.

“It was difficult afterward because we had played perhaps our best 45 minutes since I arrived at PSG four months ago, against, moreover, a team of high quality, which will win the English championship,” Pochettino said.

“In the second half, our team was not able to maintain its volume and its level of play, there may have been fatigue. This can come with preseason work, with time.”

PSG now aims to overturn its 2-1 tie deficit against Manchester City.
