Mauricio Pochettino shared why fatigued may have played a factor in Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League semifinal first leg loss against Manchester City.
PSG’s recent bout with Manchester City in the Champions League was a tale of two halves. The French powerhouse came away from the first half with a key goal scored coupled with multiple high percentage goal-scoring chances created over this time period. However, PSG’s second half struggles saw the side complete the first match of the tie with a 2-1 loss.
Pochettino sees multiple factors as to why PSG failed to finish the fixture with a key win. But as the Argentine manager detailed (via Le Parisien) following PSG’s win against Lens, fatigue within the team may have been one determining factor in why the side simply could not hold on to the lead.
“It was difficult afterwards because we had played perhaps our best 45 minutes since I arrived at PSG four months ago, against, moreover, a team of high quality, which will win the English championship,” Pochettino said.
“In the second half, our team was not able to maintain its volume and its level of play, there may have been fatigue. This can come with preseason work, with time.”
PSG now aims to overturn the 2-1 tie deficit and move on into the final of the Champions League competition.
