Pochettino Shares Learning Lessons from First Season as PSG Manager

Mauricio Pochettino recently completed his first season as Paris Saint-Germain’s manager, which was one that included plenty of ups and downs. The Argentine manager was able to win two trophies over his opening half-season run with the club, which included the recent triumph in the Coupe de France tournament. However, PSG finished in second place in the Ligue 1 standings, which not many expected to see.

Pochettino comes away from the season with plenty of learning lessons, especially in league play. The PSG coach recently spoke (via Le Parisien) on the team’s shortcomings in Ligue 1 along with where the team could improve on for next season.

“We all remember lost games where we didn’t get the points,” Pochettino said. “You also have to put the season in context. We were playing very difficult competitions until the end. It is a very difficult period. I’m sad, disappointed but I look to the future with optimism.

“There is room for improvement. I will stay with the satisfaction of having played an important role in the Champions League, of having won the French Cup. We know that we are in a club with requirements.”

PSG will head into next season as the early favorites in the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France competitions. Pochettino will surely be aiming to finally win the first league title of his managerial career, which is a feat that was unable to accomplish during his run with Premier League side Tottenham.
