Pochettino Provides a Major Update With Mbappe’s Availability for the Champions League Return Fixture Against Manchester City

Kylian Mbappe was an injury scratch from Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 home fixture against RC Lens. Mbappe has been dealing with a notable right calf injury over the past week and instead of rushing him back for this league match, PSG elected to simply keep him off the team’s squad list.

PSG has not yet provided for an official determination on whether Mbappe will be fit enough to feature in the team’s upcoming UEFA Champions League semifinal second leg duel with Manchester City. Still, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino sees that the forward may end up being available to take on the current Premier League leaders.

Pochettino spoke further to Canal Football Club about Mbappe’s current injury status following the team’s key Ligue 1 win against Lens.

“I am optimistic, I still am,” Pochettino said. “We think he will be there.

“We will make a decision before the match but I am optimistic.”

Mbappe has scored six goals over this season’s Champions League knockout stage. If Mbappe will not be able to go against Manchester City, the side will need other attacking players to step up in his absence.
