Neymar Sounds Off on the Questionable Yellow Card Received During the Coupe de France Fixture Against Montpellier

Many were surprised to see Neymar not in Paris Saint-Germain’s starting 11 for the Coupe de France semifinal fixture against Montpellier. Still, the Brazilian did go on to feature in the match as he was subbed in minutes after Montpellier scored the late game-tying goal.

There was some controversy following Neymar’s appearance in the match as he went on to earn a yellow card following a foul committed.

The Brazilian forward was not pleased with the call from match referee Jeremie Pignard to award him with a caution. On Instagram after the match, the PSG star voiced his displeasure over the yellow card earned.

Neymar notes that he will go on to miss the Coupe de France final due to a yellow card suspension. However, as noted by RMC Sport, this may not be the case as the one-match suspension will likely be rolled over into the first match of the next season.

The French Football Federation’s disciplinary committee has typically put into effect one-match suspensions for such incidents a week after its scheduled meetings. The committee will be meeting next week and since PSG’s season will be over by May 23, this one-match suspension will be issued for the side’s opening fixture of the upcoming new campaign.

Thus, if PSG goes on to win the Coupe de France final, Neymar’s one-match suspension will then be issued for the team’s opening match of the 2021/2022 campaign, which will be the 2021 Trophee des Champions final.

For now, Neymar aims to help guide PSG to wins in its final three matches of the season.
