Kaka Details Why Neymar Has Not Yet Won the Ballon d’Or Award

Former Brazilian international Kaka provided his reasoning as to why Neymar still has not won the Ballon d’Or award.

One could make the argument that Neymar is the best player today who has still not yet earned a single Ballon d’Or award win. The Paris Saint-Germain star’s highest finish for this prestigious award came in 2015 when he finished third behind both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neymar came into this season among the dark horse candidates for this award. However, injuries have hurt his bid to possibly win the honor this year.

Kaka has won the Ballon d’Or before and notes that for a player like Neymar to win this award, he would need a collective accomplishment to add to his resume. Kaka detailed why during his talk with the Brazilian-based outlet Arenasbt.

“I am even happy because today the award for best individual player in the world is linked to collective awards,” Kaka said. “I think this is very good because it is a collective sport. You can’t win anything alone. What Ney needs, for him to win the award, is a collective achievement with him as the protagonist.”

While Neymar came short of leading PSG to UEFA Champions League triumph this season, he could still finish the year winning a notable collective accomplishment with a possible Copa America tournament win.
