One can not argue Mauro Icardi’s prowess as a goal-scorer in domestic play this season. When he is fit and available, Icardi has delivered for Paris Saint-Germain time and time again, such as the goal in the Trophee des Champions final win against Olympique de Marseille.
However, the same can not be said for Icardi in the UEFA Champions League this season.
PSG crashed out of the Champions League knockout stage following the 4-1 semifinal tie loss against Manchester City. Icardi earned a start in the second leg of this tie against the current Premier League leaders. Overall, Icardi was not much of a factor in the match as he did not record a shot or key pass.
More so, Icardi finished his campaign playing in only three of PSG’s Champions League matches this season. In the three Champions League fixtures that Icardi managed to play in, he wound up only recording a mere one total shot on target, which came during the Round of 16 first leg duel with Barcelona.
This is unlike Icardi’s 2019/2020 Champions League run where he managed to score five goals.
It will be noteworthy to see whether Icardi may have already played in his final Champions League match with PSG.
