Juanfran spent eight years with Atlético Madrid, and in his time in the Spanish capital, the right-back had various encounters with Neymar Jr. when the 29-year-old was at FC Barcelona before leaving in 2017.
During an interview with Cadena Ser (via Canal Supporters), Juanfran answered a question over which player annoyed him the most on the pitch. Without much hesitation, the Spain international selected Neymar Jr. as the player who bothered him the most on the field.
“Luis Suarez, the player who annoyed me the most? No, it was Neymar,” Juanfran said.
Despite stating that the current Paris Saint-Germain player annoyed him while on the pitch, Juanfran noted that people have said Neymar is a good person off the pitch. Still, when he’s playing, the Brazil international is a pain in the behind.
“When I went to Brazil (Juanfran played two years in Sao Paulo, 2019-2021), I wanted to know more. Off the pitch, they told me very well about him, that he’s a good kid with no problem, but on the pitch, he was unbearable,” Juanfran said.
Neymar’s job on the pitch is not only to score and generate chances for his team, but if he can annoy and get a particular player off his game, then he’s affecting the game in two ways.
