‘Without a Doubt’ – Brazilian Manager on Sending Neymar an Invitation to Be Apart of Olympic Team in Tokyo

After dealing with their postponement last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the summer of 2021 will see plenty of international football. For Paris Saint-Germain, the capital club will have players participating in the UEFA Euro 2020 and the Copa América.

Furthermore, there’s the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, and Brazil is one of the countries that qualified for the tournament from CONMEBOL. The competition is primarily for under-23 players, but each country has three slots for overage players.

In an interview with O Globoesporte, Brazilian Olympic coach André Jardine would like to have Neymar Jr. return as one of the players for the overage slots. The 29-year-old won a gold medal in 2016 when the summer games were in Rio de Janeiro.

“Without a doubt. Assuming that we want to form the strongest selection possible, Neymar, who is the flagship player of the A selection and the best active Brazilian player, comes into play. We are talking about a crack with absurd decision-making power, a destabilizing force for the opponent, who plays in a big club,” Jardine said.

“He may be in the prime of his career. For us, that would be an asset of enormous quality. We understand that the situation is complex. We leave that to the institution. It is a question which goes beyond my prerogatives as a coach and concerns more the CBF, the PSG, and the player himself.”

PSG supporters will hold their breath and hope that Neymar declines the invitation considering it’s something that he’s won a gold medal in the past.

Furthermore, Neymar will be playing for Brazil at the Copa América this summer, so to have two summer competitions for Neymar would have everyone associated with the French giants grasping their breath.
