Paris Saint-Germain went onto the pitch for the final 90 minutes in their UEFA Champions League Quarterfinal without their captain Marquinhos. The capital club would lean heavily on Presnel Kimpembe to anchor the backline.
The French giants’ defense would bend and concede a goal; however, they would come away with a favorable result despite losing 1-0. Les Parisiens are advancing to the Champions League semi-final after holding the away goal tiebreaker.
After the match, Presnel Kimpembe spoke to RMC Sport to discuss the accomplishment. Canal Supporters relayed his comments.
“Lots of joy and emotions because it was a tough game. We lost, but the match ended with a great performance from the team. I want to say it; I am very proud. Even if we lose, it’s still very positive. It’s something strong to have the chance to have youth players on the field; it shows that there is the soul of the club. Colin has shown that he is capable of playing good matches; I am very proud of him,” Kimpembe said.
“Collectively, we did the job, but I want to congratulate him because he was in it. The club keeps growing, day by day, year by year. I am proof of it; I had difficulty reviving myself after what happened two years ago (against Manchester United). When you fall, you have to know how to get up. Tonight it was a battle, a war, but we fought well. The most important thing was the qualification, and now we will try to savor as best we can even if we have to switch quickly to Ligue 1.”
