Video: ‘He Followed His Values’ – Leonardo Discusses Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s Role Against the European Super League

This past week, the football world saw the rise and quick fall of the European Super League. The 12 founding clubs wanted to break away from the UEFA Champions League as their new tournament would allow for them to garner more revenue.

Despite the dollar figures that the European Super League would bring, Paris Saint-Germain was one of the significant clubs against the formation of this tournament. Nasser Al-Khelaifi would be one of the leaders leading the anti-super league crusade.

PSG Sporting Director Leonardo spoke to Canal Plus, where Culture PSG relayed the comments of the club chief over Al-Khelaifi’s leadership.

“I think we are very, very, very proud of Nasser. We have known the work that he has been doing for a long time, and it is true that at the moment, the leadership position is critical concerning this decision. He followed his values, the values of the club, and that makes me very proud because he comes out of it all as president of the ECA, and it’s not just the fact that he made that decision,” Leonardo said.

“I think that’s him – but it’s recognition for the person. He is a person who can work not only now but also for the future because football is in a delicate moment and we are looking for solutions. Everyone is in difficulty; Paris Saint-Germain is also going through these difficulties, but that was not a reason to leave the row, and there, given the relationship I have with Nasser, I am personally very, very proud of him.”
