Report: Neymar Could Face a Three Match Suspension Due to the Red Card Incident During the Lille Fixture

Neymar was sent off during the late stages of Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 fixture against Lille. After a slight altercation with Lille defender Tiago Djalo, match referee Benoit Bastien elected to issue Neymar a second yellow card, which sent him to the locker room.

For the moment, Neymar will at the least miss PSG’s upcoming away league fixture against Strasbourg after picking up the red card in the Lille match. But from there, it is up in the air as to how many more matches he could go on to miss.

As noted by Le Parisien, the Ligue de Football Professionnel’s Disciplinary Committee is set to further look into Neymar’s recent red card incident on Wednesday. Based on one of its disciplinary scales, Neymar may be in danger of missing PSG’s next three fixtures, per the report.

This could see Neymar miss not only the upcoming Strasbourg match but also the AS Saint-Etienne and Metz fixtures.

Neymar could go on to miss five matches in total, although it remains to be seen on how the LFP’s Disciplinary Committee could make the case that such a suspension would be warranted for the forward’s actions in the match.

Neymar has so far only appeared in 13 of PSG’s 31 league matches so far this season.
