Lionel Messi’s ongoing contract situation with Barcelona remains as the biggest storyline to watch for the upcoming summer transfer window. Messi will become a free agent at the end of the season where he will have the opportunity to part ways from Barca as a free transfer.
In the midst of Messi’s impending free agency, the likes of Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a potential free transfer move for the Argentine star. These such rumors were fueled by Neymar’s comments last year over wanting to reunite with Messi.
As noted by ESPN, Barca is working on submitting a three-year contract extension deal to Messi. The report also adds that PSG and Manchester City remain on close watch to see how this entire contract dilemma will play out.
For Messi, he reportedly has several questions regarding potential moves that Barca’s board could end up striving for. According to a report from the Spanish-based outlet Marca, Messi wants to know whether recently elected Barca president Joan Laporta has plans to pursue a potential Neymar signing.
However, a possible Neymar move by Barca would be complicated because of PSG’s current strong stance with the Brazilian forward, the report added.
Neymar will become a free agent next year. The PSG star did recently reveal his ambition to stay on with PSG, although he has not yet come to terms on a new contract extension deal with club officials.
Neymar and Messi spent four seasons together at the Catalan club where they mounted to success in all competitions.
