One of the crown jewels from Paris Saint-Germain’s youth system is Xavi Simons, who left La Masia for the French capital. Thus far, the 17-year-old has made two appearances for Les Parisiens.
Nonetheless, PSG has plans for the teenager, which is why they’re hoping to keep Simons long-term. Simons’ contract expires next season, and Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano stated on his “Here We Go” podcast (via Paris Fans) that there’s a good chance that Simons signs an extension.
“I can confirm that Mino Raiola is Xavi Simons’ agent. PSG wants to offer him a new contract; they have confidence in him. Chances are he will stay,” Romano said.
Over the last couple of years, PSG has seen a good amount of youth products depart every summer. Last year, the capital club had to say goodbye to Tanguy Kouassi, who left for FC Bayern Munich; meanwhile, Adil Aouchiche went to AS Saint-Étienne.
It seems as though the French giants will avoid losing one of the better players in the youth system as they could keep Simons. It will be interesting to see how PSG interrogates Simons and provides him with first-team minutes.
