Pochettino Says Facing Guardiola ‘Makes You Improve As a Coach’

Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino lauded Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola ahead of their UEFA Champions League semifinal tie.

Pochettino faced off against Guardiola numerous times during the Argentine’s days as Tottenham’s manager. Guardiola managed Manchester City to multiple key wins against Pochettino-led Tottenham sides in Premier League play. However, the Argentine manager claimed bragging rights in the Champions League following Tottenham’s dramatic quarterfinal tie win over Manchester City in 2019.

Now, the two managers will be facing off once again later this month. For Pochettino, he much respects Guardiola’s work as a manager, which the PSG manager spoke in-depth about to the Cadena Ser show El Larguero.

“I like playing against Pep because for me he is the best in the world and playing against him makes you improve as a coach,” Pochettino exclaimed.

“City is a very good team and is tailor-made by Pep. I think he is showing what he has already shown at Barcelona and Bayern.”

Both managers are vying to pull off a treble-winning campaign. Manchester City has a shot at a quadruple-winning season as the side is still in all four of its major competitions. Meanwhile, Pochettino still has work to do in order to lead PSG to this feat considering that the French side currently stands outside the top spot in the Ligue 1 table.
