‘Our Performance Was Good’ — Pochettino Details Takeaways from PSG’s Ligue 1 Win Over Metz

Paris Saint-Germain extended its Ligue 1 winning streak to three matches thanks to the 3-1 away win against Metz. A double from Kylian Mbappe and a penalty goal from Mauro Icardi were enough to push PSG towards a much-needed league win.

Mauricio Pochettino comes away from the match much pleased with the performance from his side. PSG needed the win to keep pace with current league-leaders Lille OSC, and the French powerhouse did just that with a standout attacking showing.

Pochettino spoke after the match (via PSG TV) on what he took away from this critical league win against Metz.

“It’s always difficult to play when the opponents are good,” Pochettino said. “But our performance was good, and we were professional. We are very happy, the three points were the objective, we got them and we are now in a good position for the title race, which is a huge objective for the end of the season.

“It’s important to continue to battle, to maintain this mentality, and to play as we are in each match with our strengths.

“We are on the right track, there is still a month of competitive football to go, we are still in the running in the cup, in the league and in the Champions League. We are battling to win all three, it’s what we want to accomplish at the end of this season.”

For the moment, PSG has a two-point lead over Lille in the league standings. However, Lille could retake first place in the league table with a win over Olympique Lyonnais on the current matchday. Still, a favorable result for PSG in this upcoming match could end up providing the side with the league lead for good this season.
