Kylian Mbappe got off to a slow and lackluster start to this season’s UEFA Champions League competition. But over his last four Champions League matches, Mbappe has quickly turned the tide on his form.
Mbappe finished the Champions League group stage with a two-goal showing against Istanbul Basaksehir. The French forward so far has followed it up with six goals in this season’s knockout stage, including two in the recent Champions League quarterfinal first leg fixture against Bayern Munich.
Overall, Mbappe now sits at 21 career Champions League goals with PSG. This ranks second all-time in PSG history behind Edinson Cavani’s 30 such goals.
Mbappe has scored his 21 Champions League goals over four seasons with PSG while Cavani amounted to his 30 goals total over seven seasons with the French powerhouse.
It is highly unlikely that Mbappe will go on to score nine goals over the remainder of this season’s knockout stage. However, if Mbappe goes on to remain at PSG following the upcoming summer transfer window, he could surpass Cavani’s Champions League goals total with PSG over next season’s group stage.
