Neymar made his long-awaited return to Paris Saint-Germain’s starting 11 during its Ligue 1 fixture against Lille. However, Neymar did not have his usual standout showing as he failed to chip in for a goal contribution in this match.
More so, Neymar was sent off in the final minutes of the fixture after a slight altercation with a Lille player.
For Mauricio Pochettino, he was not pleased to see his star forward leave the match in such fashion, especially as the side was still in need of a goal to draw level. After the match, Pochettino provided his thoughts (via RMC Sport) on Neymar’s controversial red card incident.
“Of course, the management of emotions is important in life, in football and a club like PSG,” Pochettino said. “What we are experiencing at the moment is atypical compared to usual. But it is not only a question of emotions. There are plenty of things that we are trying to optimize from the start to be better every day.”
Pochettino and PSG now look ahead to the upcoming UEFA Champions League quarterfinal first leg fixture against FC Bayern Munich. Neymar will surely look for a bounce back performance in this upcoming heavyweight showdown, which would be much-needed for PSG.
