Herrera Reflects on How PSG Managed to Eliminate Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the Champions League This Season

Ander Herrera took a look back on the key factors behind Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League tie wins against both Barcelona and Bayern Munich this season.

PSG surely shocked many when the French powerhouse scored four away goals against Barcelona and three away goals against Bayern earlier this season. These two performances proved to be enough for PSG in both ties as the side willed its way to the semifinals of this season’s Champions League.

For Herrera, the away showing against Barca was crucial for PSG to advance past the Catalan side for the first time in its history. The Spanish midfielder recounted this battle while speaking to the Spanish-based outlet Marca.

“I think our superiority in the first game was not as brutal as the result says,” Herrera said. “We were better and did things the way we should have done. We knew where our opponents’ weak points were and how to hurt them. They were better in the second game, when you have nothing to lose you get rid of the pressure and get the best out of yourself.”

More so, the duels against Bayern Munich were two fixtures that Herrera will not be forgetting anytime soon.

“It was possibly the best 180 minutes I can remember,” Herrera said. “You could see the tension, the concentration. It was a brutal tie.

“I have the feeling that we eliminated a Bayern team that was even better than the one in the Lisbon final.”

PSG now aims for yet another thrilling away performance in the upcoming Champions League semifinal return fixture against Manchester City.
