Neymar Jr. has been in the French capital for four years and the 29-year-old interviewed with France Football (via Canal Supporters) for an in-depth discussion. One of the topics was his connection with Kylian Mbappé.
The Brazilian forward went on to discuss how their relationship began to develop when both arrived in 2017. Neymar credits Mbappé for helping him get acclimated to French culture when he came to Paris Saint-Germain from FC Barcelona.
“[Mbappé] taught me a lot about the way to be French,” Neymar said. “He explained to me the French mentality. I owe him much of my adaptation and, therefore, my happiness to be here.”
From the conversation, it seems as though Neymar wasn’t too familiar with Mbappé’s skillset. The teenager had captivated the football world after one season at AS Monaco before deciding to come home in a transfer to the French giants.
Nonetheless, it didn’t take that many training sessions for Neymar to see the quality Mbappé possessed. Furthermore, the 29-year-old went on to label the “Golden Boy.”
“I had the opportunity to see him train, observe his speed, his dribbling repertoire, his intelligence, and observe his humility to continue evolving,” Neymar said.
“There, I said to myself: “he is our golden boy! Speed alone doesn’t mean anything. You have to be smart to use it properly, and Kylian is. He is not only brilliant and fast, but he also has a huge repertoire of dribbling.”
With Neymar on the verge of extending his contract with the capital club, perhaps he can play a role in convincing Mbappé to stay.
