Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness gave his unfiltered thoughts on Julian Draxler’s current run with Paris Saint-Germain.
Before the start of the March international break, Draxler picked up form for PSG. The German midfielder had been chipping in for key goal contributions in all competitions and was even becoming more of a reliable talent under Mauricio Pochettino.
Still, Draxler’s performances were not enough to sway German national team manager Joachim Low to pick him for the side’s recent squad list.
Low provided no specific explanation as to why Draxler did not earn a call-up. But for Hoeness, he believes that Draxler has simply not shown enough as of late to be in Germany’s squad list.
Hoeness spoke to the German-based outlet Sport Bild about Draxler’s recent form.
“He has not really developed at PSG,” Hoenes said. “He’s a good player, but I don’t think he can give a real boost to the German team.”
While Draxler did not earn a call-up for Germany’s fixtures over the past week, he still could be among the players picked for its Euro 2020 squad list. Draxler would need to up his performances over the remainder of this season in order to potentially make this happen.
