Xavi Simons revealed just what it has been like to spend time with Paris Saint-Germain’s first-team.
Ever since Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival at PSG, Simons has been more and more of a regular in PSG’s squad list. The Dutch prospect is also spending much more time in training sessions with the first-team.
Simons has only totaled for one lone appearance under Pochettino, which came in the Coupe de France fixture against Caen.
Overall, Simons is much pleased with how his season has gone so far. As he detailed to PSG Le Mag, he credits his teammates for helping him make the adjustment to being with the first-team.
“Here I feel at home,” Simons said. “I am very happy at PSG, my teammates have integrated me well and I have this feeling of being part of a family. In fact, I am in the best possible place where I could be today.
“Last season I have to say I was a bit shy. I had just arrived, I didn’t know many people and there was a bit of this language barrier. Speaking French also helps me joke with my teammates, which is important in the life of a group.”
Simons is still without an official appearance at the Parc des Princes, but he aspires to soon earn playing time at this historical stadium.
“Playing at the Park with this jersey is a dream,” Simons said. “I have been there before as a spectator and I loved the atmosphere set by the fans. They make a lot of noise during the whole game.
“In the meantime, I work every day with the idea of making progress to make this dream come true. To achieve this, there is a path to follow: I have to stay focused on my goals and keep working.”
With PSG now in the stretch run of its season, it will be interesting to see whether Pochettino plans to provide the prospect with more playing time now.
