Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League Quarterfinal opponent is FC Bayern Munich in a rematch of last seasons’ final. In their run to the final the previous year, the capital club didn’t face a club at the German giants’ level.
Last season’s opponents in the Champions League knockout stages consisted of Borussia Dortmund, Atalanta BC, and RB Leipzig. None will consider these clubs as European giants; however, PSG can only play who’s in front of them.
Nonetheless, for Canal Football Club pundit Habib Beye, the opportunity to play the Bavarian club is an opportunity for Les Parisiens to make a statement that they’re indeed one of the giants in European football.
“It’s the best possible draw because for PSG, no matter who you run into, the goal is to go to the final. Concretely, if you go out in the quarterfinals against Bayern, it is a failure. If you go out in the quarterfinals against Atalanta, it is a failure. Me, I find that it is finally the opportunity for PSG to be seen as a big club,” Beye said.
“Last year, they made it to the final, and we kept saying it was Atalanta; it was Leipzig. We considered it a small final because they had beaten small teams. If they beat Bayern, we may finally say that PSG is a very great team. I’m not sure it’s an excellent draw for Bayern.”
