Julian Draxler may have just turned around his season at the right time. After a sluggish first half of the season due to injuries, the German midfielder is now healthy and a regular contributor to Paris Saint-Germain as of late.
Draxler has appeared in PSG’s last eight fixtures in all competitions, including a start in the recent UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg match against Barcelona. Over these select fixtures, he logged four total goal contributions.
Thanks to his recent play, he has now won over PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino.
According to a report from L’Equipe, Pochettino requested PSG sporting director Leonardo to make plans to keep Draxler. The German talent is still set to become a free agent at the end of the season, which will allow him the opportunity to depart from the club on a free transfer move.
Pochettino is much impressed with Draxler’s versatility and overall play as of late. Thus, the Argentine manager sees him as a key depth piece for not only the rest of the ongoing campaign but also for next season.
Last year, Draxler did note about his ambition to become a free agent, even though rumors swirled at the time over interest from several clubs for a transfer move. But now, he could very well change his mind and elect to tag along with Pochettino and inquire over staying at the club beyond this season.
