Neymar and Lionel Messi

Report: Neymar Working Behind-the-Scenes to Convince Messi to Join PSG

Neymar is currently still away from the team due to the adductor injury that he suffered last month. While he is not helping Paris Saint-Germain on the pitch, the Brazilian may just be assisting the club in what could be the biggest signing of the year.

The Spanish-based outlet Mundo Deportivo detailed on Neymar’s behind-the-scenes work in attempting to convince Lionel Messi to not re-sign with Barcelona but rather join PSG. The Argentine remains on par to become a free agent at the end of the season, so he will have the chance to come to a free transfer agreement with any club.

Neymar has been exchanging with Messi through the social media app WhatsApp about why he should join PSG, per the report. The two have been in touch as of late with Neymar being open about how he misses playing alongside the Barca star and how they would be ‘unbeatable’ at PSG.

Neymar is not the only one who wants Messi at PSG. The report also notes that Kylian Mbappe’s recent Twitter post on Messi may have been one subliminal message in the push to convince the Argentine to sign on with the reigning Ligue 1 champions.

More so, the hiring of Mauricio Pochettino coupled with the recent contract extension deal for Angel Di Maria are viewed as PSG building a case to Messi on why he should join the club.

For Neymar, his aspiration to reunite with Messi is far from new. Last year, the Brazilian made for headline-type comments when he revealed that he wants to once again play alongside Messi. The Brazilian did not specify as to which club he would want this to be at, but the signs as of late show that Neymar wants Messi’s last years of his prime to be played at PSG.

As mentioned, Messi will become a free agent at the end of the season. No timetable has been set as to just when the Argentine will make a final decision on his footballing future.
