Report: Draxler in Early Talks With PSG for a Contract Extension Deal

Paris Saint-Germain has jump-started contract extension talks with impending free agent Julian Draxler, according to a report from RMC Sport.

Draxler is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. The German midfielder is in the final days of his contract at PSG after months in which the two sides failed to reach an agreement on a new deal.

However, PSG has now elected to open up talks with Draxler for such a deal, per the report.

For the moment, PSG has not sent Draxler a contract extension offer. There is no word yet on whether the German midfielder would be interested in prolonging his stay at PSG or if he prefers to depart from the club as a free agent.

One recent report noted that PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino went to club sporting director Leonardo to inquire on whether he would be able to work to extend Draxler’s stay at the club.

The German midfielder has rejuvenated his season as of late. With starts against Barcelona coupled with key goal contributions in Ligue 1 play, he is continuing to emerge as a reliable midfielder under the Argentine manager.

Overall, Draxler is already allowed to speak to other clubs about a possible pre-contract agreement ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
