Plenty of Paris Saint-Germain supporters are awaiting the announcement of Neymar Jr. extending his contract with the capital club. Les Parisiens have already locked up Ángel Di María for another season, and perhaps that’s the first domino to fall as they begin working on extensions for specific players.
In an interview with TNT Sports (via Paris Fans), Marquinhos spoke about his teammate and compatriot possibly extending his contract and continuing his venture with Les Parisiens. The 26-year-old went on to say that he wants Neymar to remain with PSG.
“It’s vital that Neymar stays. I like him a lot; he’s a great friend, an exceptional player, and a great team leader. I know him well; he’s a competitor born for these key moments, which hurt him to miss this match in Barcelona,” Marquinhos said.
“But it helped him work hard to be back for the game. It would be great to continue playing with Neymar; I hope the situation can materialize as soon as possible. As a friend too, I would like to have it even longer!”
Various reports suggest that Neymar and PSG have agreed to a contract; however, no deal has been announced publicly. The waiting game for an extension continues as the 29-year-old seems likely to remain with the French giants.
Finally, the interview concluded with the Brazilian media outlet asking Marquinhos about FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi. Various reports have the forward possibly heading to PSG with the rumors surrounding his future, but the captain decided to sidestep the question.
“Lionel Messi is a great player; anyone would like to play against him or with him. But I’m not going to cry to find out who’s not here. My teammates are the best in the world,” Marquinhos said.
