AC Milan understands that Zlatan Ibrahimović nor Mario Mandžukić is the long-term solution at striker heading forward due to their age. As a result, Rossoneri will be in the market searching for a new number nine, especially if they hold on and qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
Enter Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi, who is familiar with the league and the city. The 28-year-old spent a significant amount of time with rivals Inter Milan, which explains why Milan is reportedly targeting the forward.
Furthermore, the Italian side appears to be preparing an offer for the forward to return to Italy. According to La Repubblica (via MilanLive), the Rossoneri will have to pay around €50-million for Icardi, who’s under contract with Les Parisiens until 2024.
If Milan qualifies for the Champions League, perhaps they’ll be willing to meet that price. However, should they fumble and finish outside the top four in Serie A, they’ll have to mull over when it comes to paying that price. With no Champions League money heading their way and clubs seeing financial revenue loss, it might be too much for them to fork over.
