The coronavirus pandemic has affected Paris Saint-Germain’s financial revenue. Furthermore, with Neymar Jr.’s pending contract extension and perhaps one to Kylian Mbappé, the capital club’s wage budget will see an increase.
Also, there’s the rumored pursuit of FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, and those wages won’t come cheap either. As a result, Les Parisiens could be looking to trim out expensive wages, which could lead to the potential departure of striker Mauro Icardi.
Corriere dello Sport (via Paris Fans) reports that Icardi could be a casualty of the French giants trying to trim its wage bill, and a return to Italy could be in the cards. The Italian media outlet adds that a potential move to AS Roma is likely, with PSG loaning the striker and placing an option to buy in the deal.
However, Icardi’s wages could prevent a deal from taking place. With Roma currently in 6th place and outside a UEFA Champions League spot, perhaps it prevents them from taking on an expensive player.
Also, PSG will be looking to do everything in its power to keep Moise Kean, whose loan deal expires in June. Ultimately Icardi’s future in Paris likely comes down to whether Kean remains in the French capital or if Roma can afford his wages for a potential loan departure.
