It’s been a few months since Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time leading goal scorer Edinson Cavani left the capital club to sign a one-year deal with Manchester United FC. Despite being gone, the 34-year-old still holds fond memories of his time in the French capital.
Cavani spoke to United Review (via Foot01), discussing various topics concerning his former club. The first topic that both sides touched on is when the Uruguay international arrived at the French giants and had to play out of position alongside Zlatan Ibrahimović during his early years in the French capital.
“I’ve always had this desire to improve and develop my game and to take things from one player or another,” Cavani said. “If I had to start listing each of their attributes, I think it would be a long interview as they all have their individual qualities. You had a player like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was very competitive. He was always up for the fight, and he hated losing.”
The Cavani transitioned to discussing two other former teammates in Kylian Mbappé and Neymar Jr. The striker complimented the two superstars and praised their abilities.
“None of us like to lose, but Zlatan has consistently shown that even more than most, through his character and how he is,” Cavani said. “I played with Neymar too, as well as with Kylian Mbappé. Everyone knows Ney, don’t they? He has magic in his feet. Kylian has a lot of skill and technique and good speed; they are genuinely top-notch players.”
Many were upset at Cavani for deciding to depart PSG before their UEFA Champions League run concluded. However, it was a business decision, which is understandable, and perhaps in the future, El Matador can return to the Parc des Princes for a proper goodbye.
