Marquinhos detailed the importance of Neymar committing to a new contract extension deal with Paris Saint-Germain.
Neymar still has not yet officially signed a new contract extension agreement with PSG. The Brazilian forward is set to become a free agent a year following this season.
Marquinhos wants his PSG counterpart to stay on with the club. As the PSG defender told TNT Sports Brasil’s Isabela Pagliari (via Le10Sport), Neymar’s contract situation with the club is one that he aspires to see be resolved soon.
“It’s very important that Neymar stays,” Marquinhos said. “I like him a lot, he’s a great friend, an exceptional player, a great leader of the team. I know him well, he is a competitor born for these key moments, and it hurt him to miss this match in Barcelona.
“But it helped him work hard to be back for the game. It would be great to continue playing with Neymar, I hope the situation can materialize as soon as possible.”
Barring a major surprise, it seems inevitable that Neymar and PSG will officially come to terms and announce a new contract extension agreement. One report noted that PSG aimed to announce a new deal with Neymar last month, but the Brazilian’s adductor injury put a halt to such plans.
Neymar is currently still recovering from the adductor injury that has kept him out of PSG’s last fixtures over the past weeks.
