This Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain will welcome FC Barcelona for the second-leg of their UEFA Champions Round of 16 tie. The capital club is up 4-1 on aggregate after their victory at the Camp Nou.

Nonetheless, in the Qatar Sports Investment era, the French giants have found themselves in this position plenty of times in the knockout stages. They’ll look to avoid repeating history as they hope to produce a favorable result that will see them through to the quarterfinals.

In his interview with RTL, Marquinhos spoke about learning from past results. The PSG captain was on the pitch during the infamous 6-1 match against FC Barcelona and hopes that history avoids repeating itself.

“There are lessons that we can keep. Now it’s up to us to be smart and learn from our mistakes, from the things that have happened. It was challenging because we cannot say that we entered the field and did not want to win, that we did not force things, that we did not want to beat,” Marquinhos said.

“It’s not true, but sometimes it doesn’t work out, sometimes it’s not our day, sometimes the other team is excellent. We have to keep our serenity. After that, it’s the details every day, in every workout, to put the intensity, to keep the concentration. This is how we will prepare for this match.”

Despite PSG supporters having flashbacks of the fixture, one of the driving forces in that fixture was Neymar Jr., and he will possibly be suiting up for the capital club this time around. The 29-year-old is doing everything within his power to play in this second-leg after missing the first.
