Over the past months, multiple Paris Saint-Germain players have voiced their opinions regarding Lionel Messi’s impending free agency. The Argentine is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Thus, clubs such as PSG have been in the rumor mill regarding a possible blockbuster free transfer move.

Among the players who have openly talked about the Messi and PSG links is Leandro Paredes. The Argentine midfielder has touched on this matter multiple times as of late, including in January.

“It’s natural to want him on your team,” Paredes said. “But that will be his decision. It’s the club’s responsibility to try to convince him. I hope we can have him with us. But, I repeat, it’s his decision.”

However, these such comments may have irked some within PSG. As Paredes revealed to Le Journal du Dimanche, he was told to cut it off with the Messi comments.

“I was asked to stop talking about this topic because some people didn’t like my stance,” Paredes said. “Apparently, some people saw it as a lack of respect on my part. This was not the case. It’s up to him to decide calmly at the end of the season what he wants to do.”

Paredes was not the only PSG player over the past months that openly discussed a possible Messi move. Nonetheless, as the PSG midfielder mentioned, Messi will come to a decision regarding his future at the end of the season, whether he will elect to end his lengthy tenure with Barca and sign with a new club or commit to a new contract deal with the Catalan club.
