Former Italian Manager Capello Questions PSG for Having the ‘Wrong Approach’ in the Champions League Return Match Against Barcelona

Former Italian manager Fabio Capello brought to question Paris Saint-Germain’s approach in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg fixture against Barcelona.

With its 4-1 aggregate lead, PSG elected to be more conservative with its tactical game plan in the return fixture against Barca. As a result, the Catalan giants went on to dominate possession while recording more than double the shots on target. This was quite a contrast from the first leg where PSG was more of the aggressors in the match.

Capello watched the return fixture between the two powerhouse sides and for the former Juventus manager, he believes that this was not the approach that PSG should have gone with in the match. Capello explained to Sky Sport (via TuttoMercatoWeb) on his reasoning regarding this matter.

“PSG has disappointed me, Mbappe did not show up, and the French passed thanks to Keylor Navas,” Capello said. “If Messi had scored the penalty, it would have changed everything. In terms of quality, the Argentine tonight gave a lot, much more than the French. Paris Saint Germain was lucky; they made the wrong approach.”

The match itself had plenty of what-ifs, but in the end, it was PSG that held on to clinch a spot in the Champions League quarterfinals once again.
