Former Barcelona Scout Reveals Why Neymar Did Not Rejoin the Catalan Club in 2019

Former Barcelona scout Andre Cury revealed that Neymar did not rejoin the Catalan club in 2019 due to a €20 million roadblock.

Rumors ran rampant in 2019 as speculation mounted over whether Neymar would go on to leave Paris Saint-Germain after just two seasons in order to return to Barca. Multiple reports added to this speculation over whether this blockbuster move would come to fruition, including one such report that noted of Barca offering multiple players and cash for Neymar.

Cury left Barca over a year ago after spending time as the club’s main scout in Brazil. However, he was around during this top transfer saga in 2019. As he revealed in a Twitch Live conversation (via Onze Mondial), a €20 million fee became the main roadblock in the transfer talks between Barca and PSG for Neymar.

“There was an agreement on the table,” Cury said. “It was missing €20 million and no one wanted to put them. When they made up their mind, PSG had changed its mind and the negotiation stopped there. The names in the transaction were those of Ivan Rakitic and Jean-Clair Todibo, definitively transferred, with also the loan of Ousmane Dembélé.

“Barça refused to give the sum that PSG wanted.”

It is safe that Neymar does not regret with what transpired with this transfer saga. The Brazilian has since gone on to add to his trophy case with domestic titles along with helping PSG reach its first-ever Champions League final.

Neymar is now well among the greatest talents to ever feature for PSG.
